Oikiksessa suurta huviamme oli lukea amerikkalaisia oikeustapauksia, jotka suomalaisen oikeusjärjestelmän valossa tuntuivat absurdeilta. Mieleeni on jäänyt tapaus, jossa surffari haastoi toisen surffarin oikeuteen, koska tämä jälkimmäinen oli ottanut ja surffannut juuri sen aallon, jonka ensimmäinen oli suunnitellut surffaavansa. Oikeus jätti loppujen lopuksi tapauksen käsittelemättä, koska tuomari katsoi mahdottomaksi määritellä vahingonkorvauksen määrää siitä tuskasta, miltä tuntuu nähdä toisen surffaavan "omalla" aallollaan.
Minulle kyllä tuotti iloa katsella surffareita USA:n surffikaupungissa Huntington Beachilla. Surffasivatpa sitten omilla tai varastetuilla aalloillaan.

In law school we used to amuse ourselves by reading American court cases. From the Finnish legal system point of view many of seemed absurd. I remember a case about a surfer who sued another surfer for taking and surfing the wave that the first surfer thought that he would surf. At the end, the court did not solve the case as the judge thought that it was impossible to define the damages for the suffering of seeing someone else surfing the surfer's "own" wave.
I enjoyed watching surfers in Huntington Beach, the surf city USA and didn't mind if they were surfing on their own or stolen waves.
