The Armchair (Traveller)

P.S. Turkulaisuudesta ja sisustuksesta puheenollen, tykkään valtavasti turkulaisen, Nairobissa asuvan naisen Akaasian Alta blogin tyylistä ja inspiroivista sisustus-, savanni- ja kukkakuvista. Käykää kurkkaamassa ja tehkää nojatuolimatka huikaisevan kauniiseen Afrikkaan.

I was asked after this post click, what happened to the armchair shown in this post click. When the Lounge Chair arrived, we had to find a new place for one of my favorite furniture, the turquoise armchair. As there was no more space in the living room, we placed it in the guest bedroom. The chair was my husband's grandfather's and a couple of years ago it was broken, worn out and almost forgotten in an small island cottage in Suvisaaristo

Both of us has always like to shape of the chair and my husband associates good memories about his grand father with the chair.  When my father-in-law asked what we would like to have as a wedding present, we wished for the chair and its restoration. We chose the fabric from Designers Guild's collection. During the restoration process the upholsterer found stamps of an highly appreciated design furniture factory which was established in Turku in 1871 and was internationally recognized between 1890-1955. The fact that the chair was designed and manufactured in Turku, made the bride from Turku happy and the design stamp itself made the design-fan groom happy. The chair was carefully restored and shall now last for the next generations. Above the armchair there is a painting made by the same grandfather and one of the carpets seen in the painting is on the floor in front of the armchair.

P.S. Talking about decor and Turku, I found a lovely blog Akaasian Alta written by a lady from Turku who lives in Nairobi. The text is in Finnish but do some armchair traveling to Africa and check her beautiful and inspiring pictures of her house, savannah and oh, those flowers.
