Stars Under the Stars

Heinäkuu helteisessä loma-Suomessa, elokuu ei-helteisessä-mutta-kesälomatunnelmallisessa-Baselissa. Ei lainkaan hassumpi tapa viettää kesää. Suomesta kotiin lähtiessämme, arki tuntui jo koputtelevan nurkissa ja fiilis töihin palaavista ja koulun aloittavista kummitteli kaduilla. Baselissa lomat ovat elokuussa vasta alkaneet joten kaduilla on lomameininki ja kaupunki on täynnä kesätapahtumia. Yksi parhaista kesätapahtumista on mielestäni teleoperaattori Orangen järjestämä kesä-kino. Leffateatteri on pystytetty, ei sen enempää eikä vähempää kuin tuomiokirkkoaukiolle ja esityksiä on elokuun joka ilta.

Spending the month of July in the sunny Finland which is basically closed for the holidays and August in  not-so-sunny-but-still on holiday mood-Basel is not a bad idea at all. When we left Finland a couple of weeks ago for Basel, we could already feel the end of holidays on the streets and the "getting back to the office and school"-mood among the people. However, the summer holidays had just started when we got back home to Basel and all the summer events are still on their active stage. In my opinion, one of the best summer events is the summer cinema organized by teleoperator Orange. The outdoor cinema is on the Münsterplaz  and there is a different movie each night until the end of August.

Viime viikolla kävimme Mr. Pepperin kanssa katsomassa The Grand Hotel Budabest ja keskiviikkona ystäväni Mrs. D:n kanssa katsomassa American Hustlen. Mainioita vaihtoehtoja kummatkin filtin ja tähtitaivaan alla katsottaviksi.

Elokuva-aukion laidalla on pieni puistikko, jota kiertävät leffa-elokuun ajaksi pystytetyt pop-up ravintolat, mukana mm. lempi-fuusio-aasialaiseni Lily's, meksikolaisia tacoja, alcaselaisia flamkucheja, viinibaari, jäätelöbaari.

Last week Mr. Pepper and I went to see The Grand Hotel Budabest and last night my dear friend Mrs. D saw American Hustle. Both of them beign excellent options to be seen under the stars.

There is a small park along the square full of pop-up restaurants for the time of the summer cinema. One of them beign my favorite Fusion-Asian Lily's, mexican tacos, winebar, flamkuche etc.

The event is organized with the famous Swiss excellence: all the small details have been taken into account. The people who would need to sit in the first rows, have been provided with beach chairs which were so comfortable that I even considered to change to the first row.  The pop-up toilets were incredibly clean and tidy, un-numbered seats can be reserved by name-tagged signs given on the front door, VIP seats are raffled for the lucky ones and there were even movie candies given by the sponsors. Mr. Pepper was impressed by the quality of the giantic screen and the sound systemn which was achieved by speakers attached to buildings walls.

There are outdoor movies also in Zurich, Bern and Geneva. For show times, program and other information click here.
